BLOBS #10 RESULTS

Guest Designer: Brian Nielander

Kid Character Creators: Anna (age 7) and Elliot (age 9)

Happy Friday everyone!  For those kids back at school - I hope your week went well.  Ours did!  Those summer-stay-up-until-the-sun-goes-down nights are getting bumped by school-is-making-me-sleepy bedtimes.  Nightly routines are here again.

Today is RESULTS DAY and we have an incredibly special guest this week:  Automotive Designer Extraordinaire Brian Nielander (Anna and Elliot's dad and my dear spouse).  The kids were completely delighted he joined them in  character creating  and we loved his results.  Check out what popped from the negative space...a true and pure creative at work.  BLOBS were a breeze for this dad.  Scroll on for team Nielander's designs below!

It's NEW BATCH OF BLOBS Monday!  It could also mean...barbecues, picnicking, parade watching or school bag packing.  Whatever it is, may your Labor Day be spent leisurely with friends, family, lots of laughter...and...maybe a quick 5 minute round of Character Creating!  So spin, flip or add to these BLOBS and unleash those idea boosting powers.  Find Batch #10 HERE!

BLOBS #9 RESULTS

It is RESULTS DAY and thanks to all of you checking in!  We've got some good ones and can't wait to share, so here goes.  My kids have contributed their creations (as well as me!) and once again I am blown away at the different directions they get pulled in with BLOBS.  The best part - no right or wrong answers.  Just fun ones.

I spent a bit more time doing BLOBS this week and added color.  This small little step led me to a new nugget of knowledge.  While doing my BIG BEAKED BIRD, I thought of toucans and wanted to check their coloring.  My side search led me to the birdwatching town of MINDO, Ecuador where I found images of Pale-mandibled Aracari.  My little guy is inspired by this incredible looking bird.  I love when creativity leads to discovery...

BLOBS #9

Happy Monday!  Hope your weekend was inspiring and you tried something new.  We did some rock climbing (still a little new for us), watched an old movie (refreshing), hauled more boxes up and down the stairs (getting old), played some Scrabble (made up new words to get out of jams) and worked on BLOBS!  Get your very own HERE!

BLOBS #8 RESULTS

Guest Artist: Virginia Rinkel

Kid Character Creators: Kristin Rinkel (age 11) and Elena Rinkel (age 9)

Welcome to BLOB RESULTS!  I am up and running on a higher level of the house today, and ready to get back to BLOB business.

We are very fortunate to have not only one Kid Character Creator on results day, but TWO!  And following their designs is the talented and imaginative Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators MI member, author/illustrator Virgina Rinkel (their grandma).  What a fun time that BLOB session must have been.  Super job artists!   I love the variety and the fact it was a family activity (most of all).  Thanks so much for participating and I hope you'll visit again. Kristin's designs are on the left, Elena's on the right and Virginia's, underneath.

Medium used: Prismacolor colored pencils

Favorite Children's Book Character (Kristin): "Jane Benson" from the book "Stranded" by Jeff Probst.

Favorite Children's Book Character (Elena): "The Ghost" which is in the 3rd book series of the "Dog Whisperer" by Nicholas Edwards.

Favorite Children's Book Character (Virginia): "I have too many favorite books to mention, many of them from our own MichKids (Michigan authors)."

Please be sure to check out more of Virginia's lovely illustrations on her website:

Thanks again to Kristin, Elena and Virginia for sharing your work and time!  You are all inspiring.  Please drop them a comment to show your support!

BLOBS #8 RESULTS - POSTPONED

Happy Friday all.  So sorry to report this, but results for Monday's BLOBS #8 will be posted next Friday due to major flood destruction in our basement.  Roughly 20" of sewage swept up our entire (finished) basement, and we've been hauling things out to the curb since Tuesday.  Lots of drywall and insulation ripping going on.  My studio was downstairs, so I've been trying to shift operations to the main floor.  For those of you also affected, hang in there!  For those who weren't - please take a moment to roll around on your basement floors for us today.  Stay tuned to next Friday!
